Do I Want To Be A Photographer Now?

I worked GU Homecoming this year! This past homecoming I was able to work for the edge and take photos for the school. Not only did I take photos of the alumni and the greek life festivities, but I also took pictures at the football game. This was my first experience taking pictures of any type of sport. I was able to capture the true grind of the sport and the raw passion shown by a lens and through the player’s faces.

I was able to use a lot of the Gannon equipment including a Canon Mark lll and a Canon 400mm lens. Although I was able to work with the top tier equipment for football shooting, I was a tad uncomfortable being as though I have quite small hands and the lens was hard to work with. The experience was super fun and I got to experience a field of work that is so fun and cool. I don’t think id want to make it a career of mine but it certainly is fun to see and capture what goes on, on the sidelines. There is unspoken anxiety brought by the players but it is exciting. I feel like you never know what is to come and that is exactly what I like to capture.

After this experience, I have been at every game taking pictures for the players and giving them to Gannon's Head of Social Media, Nicole Lossie. After a few weeks of trying what is best for me, I have realized that I take the best photos with a Canon T7i camera and a Canon 300mm lens. The camera isn't super small but is small enough along with the lens. It is way easier to handle at such an intense and fast pace that the game takes place. I am still content with my dream of being a Publicist for an NFL athlete, but I am entering this realm of interest I never knew I had. Photography is such a cool thing to experience. I do want to get involved with as much I can regarding this field of work while I am here at Gannon and use it as a fun and creative outlet to produce content related to my career goal.
