She's A Press Conference Guru

Today I took part in the preparation of a real press conference. One of my mentors for work is Haley Figurski, which is the Head of Public Relations for Gannon University. This press conference was dedicated to the extension of the new academic building created for the I-HACK majors. These majors include Cyber Engineering and Cyber Security. The university held a press conference for the alumni, staff, students, and donors to create an update on this expansion.

The marketing department of Gannon truly allows us, edge workers, to get into the processes of making these things happen. I was able to shadow Haley as she got two new stations and a newspaper outlet in order to keep the public engaged with the new beginnings here at Gannon. I was able to witness what it is she does get these representatives to a press conference, how the campus was made aware of the conference and what information actually goes into promotions.

Although this wasn't me getting hands-on experience, which is my favorite way to learn, I still loved doing this because I learned what it taking to get the media into the event. With this experience, I can now apply what I saw to what I will hopefully do in the future and I'm so excited to continue. These experiences are super important to have for the end goal I have which is becoming a publicist. Catch me back here next week to see what new experiences I endure!
